Attention: Metal, Big Sur and Apple Silicon

Thats awesome to hear!! So we can downloaad the new version from the Cheetah site?
No. As I said in my posting. I still have quite some work to do. There is a difference between a first test drive and a usable product. So it still takes some time until I release an alpha version.

Hi Martin – great news on your development progress! I have an M1 Mac Mini with 16GB RAM. Looking forward to having Cheetah in a state where we can begin testing.

In my own brief tests on the M1 Mac Mini running current release of Cheetah (7.5b1) under Rosetta 2 emulation I got similar results to what you just posted except for Gecko.jas. Did you render that one under Cheetah or Falcon render? Because for Falcon I get 20.56 seconds. But for Cheetah render I do match the 2.99 seconds you posted.

I've rendered the unmodified scenes how they are bundled with Cheetah3D. The other two scenes are rendered with Falcon.

I've added the macOS Big Sur support to Cheetah3D 7.5.1. It fixes some crashing bugs so it's recommended to everybody using macOS Big Sur.

In the downloaded Ver 7.5.1 the about screen does not say what version it is?
What do you mean with About screen? The About window? I've just checked the download and I get the proper 7.5.1.

OK it is there faintly in grey at the top. I was looking for a more pronounced (darker print) notice and missed the faint one at the very top. Sorry.

Hi Martin and Cheetah Forum Readers!
I had a DTK for a few months, and even though Cheetah was not optimized for it and running via Rosetta 2, it was still pretty fast!

The guy you all may remember as "Garden Spider" uses Cheetah constantly and has been using it to make his games. I made a few of his backgrounds on the DTK so his computer wouldn't be tied up, Check out his recent work - all 3D is via Cheetah, and in his future Unity Engine based games, all the modeling is done in Cheetah. Look for him under the name Locked On on his website https://www.lockedongames.com. Here's a post he did today about lighting in Cheetah that might be useful to you people:

I have been working on something along the same lines. Using 2D characters created in Clip studio in C3D with 3D modeled backgrounds here is an example: The little guy is 2D animated in C3D everything else is 3D models textured in Clip studio.

See it here.

Not sure if this belongs in this thread but...
Text objects are not building when text is changed. Remains as "Text" no matter what I type.

M1 Mac mini, 8GB Ram, running Big Sur 11.3.1
Tried changing fonts - Nothing
Tried quitting C3D (7.5.1) and restarting - Nothing
Tried switching to Rosetta - There is no Rosetta available in C3D "Get Info"

Any idea what I can do to get Text objects to instantiate?

Can describe what you´re doing step-by-step please? Normally it´s calling Spline->Text - go Text entry field - double-click to enable text-tool type etc.

That´s just available for "universal" apps - means they can run natively on M1 chips.

Thank you Frank!

Been a few years since I've used the Spline/Text object, I was renaming the object, not "Editing" the object.

Got now.
