First screenshot shows my ideal Window Layout -- I like having individual view controls for each viewport. It makes things much simpler.

However, this second screenshot shows what happens when I try to go from a four-view to a single view -- not what I intended at all!

Is there any way this can be fixed?

You've made your views by splitting the main view, why not use one main view and then click on quad view?

Because then you don't get the individual view controls in each quad pane.

I find a three button mouse a lot quicker that the view controls.

Hmm...so how do you focus using a three-button mouse?

I have f as my focus hotkey.

Hi Tim,
that behavior was intended. If you use the quad view button method you can save some screen space since there is only one tool bar. The focus button will always work on the currently active 3D subview (the subview with the red boarder).

If you nevertheless want the tool bar for all 3D views you have to use the window layout method.
