Adding Bump Maps to imported 3ds

Adding Bump Maps to imported 3ds

Hello,

I've been importing my 3DS models and discovered a dead end. I'm trying to add bump maps to my imported surfaces. Unfortunately, I have been able to trouble shoot the problem.

I've attached my workspace and my render.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

Hi,
does the imported .3ds has UV coords? Since without UV coords also bump mapping won't work. Have you imported both cubes and only one workes?

Imported from SketchUp

Sorry Martin, Unfortunately, I don't know if the cube has UV coords. I'm using SketchUp 5 to model the cube. I don't see any options for UV coords. The other cube I used cheetah modeling tools. I wanted to make sure it was my 3DS and not me.

Any thoughts?

Hi,
you can use the UV editor to check out if your mesh has UV coords. But since the bump map doesn't appear in your rendering I expect that the mesh doesn't have UV coords. But you can easily assign UV coords to your mesh in Cheetah3D with the "UV Mapper" tool for example.

hey martin,

Thanks for the advice. I will spend some time learning about that tool. Still a newbie.

Thanks,
