Extrude with inner and outer bounds

Extrude with inner and outer bounds

Say I have a big and a small circle (both splines). The small circle is placed in the middle of the big circle. How could I extrude the part between the big and the small circle?

Note: the big and the small circle is just an example, this is not what I'm trying to do.

I recently encoutered a similar challenge. The longer description is here http://www.cheetah3d.de/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=338

The summary is that some curves from Illustrator would not extrude properly if not entirely closed (curiously Illustrator rendered it as a closed spline). In Cheetah, I closed the object, then when I selected the curve, changed the spline type in properties, then changed it back to bezier, automagically the spline extruded.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Frank (aka BezierMaster)?
