Creating a mesh of quad polygons from a spline

I have a complex curved 3D spline which accurately matches the edge of a curved surface that I am trying to model, and I want to convert it into a mesh of quad polygons.

I want to avoid the polyplane tool as this creates triangles.

Is there an easy way of 'filling' in the spline with quad polygons manually?

:unsure: No idea if this may be useful in your model:
* I started with a torus knot as a basic spline
* Copy & paste, rescale to 0
* Use a Loft creator to generate a 3D surface. Due to the base spline, this is self-intersecting.
* You can use the U/V parameters to control the sizes of the resultant quads
* Due to the quads you can use ring / loop selects if you need those
