Edge artifacts in transparent render

Edge artifacts in transparent render

Hey all,

I'm trying to create some elements for a website I'm designing at work, so I'm rendering a set of objects with a transparent background. It looks fine at the 1x sampling I use while working, but when I turn sampling up any higher, a dark fringe appears on the edges of light objects, in this case, a folder and a flat (single poly) piece of paper -- see attachment.

The dark artifacts do go away when I use a solid color background, but I want to render transparency for PNGs. Any suggestions?

I had asked this some months ago as well.
According to what Martin's answered that time it is not possible.
It's not supported by Cheetah3D's current rendering process and therefore not supported by 3.x.

And yes, it's a shame!

Hi,
I'm sorry that there exist no fast fix for that problem since it is more a missing function than a bug.

But in your case you can quite easily work around the problem. Since you want to compose your image over a white background just set the background color in the camera object to {1,1,1,0}. That should help. So you still get the transparency without the dark artifacts.

Bye,
Martin
