Hi Jesse
* Any animation will start at the first keyframe and end at the last keyframe. If the duration of a take is longer, C3D will generate n static frames, as determined by the fps setting, and record those. The panel showing the F-curves will display a flat line for static frames for the object, real or conceptual, selected in the object browser.
* You neither need to key a frame at the beginning of the take nor at the end of a take. The F-curves are automatically extended.

The length of an animation is determined by the time set in the Takes tab.
By default it is ten seconds, by 30 fps means 300 frames.
The last key set will be effective till frame #300 until specified otherwise.
The amound of frames rendered is determined by the rounded bar below the time scale.
Normally you would adjust it according to the keys you have defined.
But it is possible to render an excerpt only by shortening the rounded bar.
