Chandelier Challenge

OK, folks. I was reading a story to one of my youngsters and noticed a rendering of a chandelier. I got to thinking that this would be an interesting and quite difficult challenge, that could also produce iterations of varying degrees. So, with no reference photo to work from, here's my challenge to all who wish to take this one on:

1) EVERYTHING is done in Cheetah3D, including texturing
2) No limits on lighting
3) No limits on environment or other objects in the scene (although the real consideration of success is for the chandelier, only)
4) No post-editing

If anyone wants to take up this challenge, I'll post the results on one of my sites (not sure which one yet).

Thoughts?

Might be a good idea to create one crystal and use the Chain Creator, Robert.

Either that or ring, but regardless, it's a challenge to see what people come up with, no matter the method. It sounds easy, but I bet it isn't as easy as it seems.

No I bet it isn't that easy. Plus I believe crystal takes a long time to render. Someone posted a crystal rose on this site and said it took 75 hours to animate. Yikes!

Yeah. I've been working on the ever-so-popular wine glass for the past couple of days and it takes about an hour to render that with a bit of wine in it. It's rather difficult to get the caustics right.

Yes - but keep in mind that was David on an ancient Mac G3. When I turned from G3 to Intel iMac in 2006 Cheetah3d rendered 20 times faster. :)

I attached scene file, but hdri file is not included. I recommend using high quality hdri image for this scene.

Hiroto, I believe yours has to be the winner here. I'll post it on my blog, if you are OK with that. Of course, the credit will go to you and link back to this forum to prove it. I'm considering starting up a CG-only site, so I might move it there.
