Texture Node Improvements

I'd like all the texture nodes (except perhaps Image) to have a checkbox that reverses their value output. This is because almost all of them are upside-down (e.g. bricks) which leads to unnecessary complexity in material setups and I am assuming incurs a performance hit.

Second, I'd like to be able to control the transition of those texture materials (such as wireframe and brick) that only produce black or white to produce grayscale transitions. It's almost impossible to produce natural-looking materials without this.

I agree.

Especially the brick node could be improved towards a universal grid node with an offset parameter that could be set to zero, off course smoothing as podperson mentioned above and also a rotation property.
