Begginer quick question... transparency

All you need is after the mesh is in editable stage to unwrap that polygon portion which you applied the decal to.
In UV editor and the image in editable state just align that UV island to the image and you´re done. (the cylindrical projection will cause some stretching what you don´t want.)
