(Rebus) Renderfarm?

(Rebus) Renderfarm?

Hi! I wonder if there is any renderfarm that you can use with c3d, like Rebus Renderfarm or similar? And if not, then it would be nice if Martin could request Rebus Renderfarm or any renderfarm to make it possible to render on a renderfarm from c3d

kk, what is that? Rendering with several computers in a network?

Yes. It basically tells each computer which part of the final render to hit, whether it's a section of the whole, or simply a layer (like the lighting or the models). Once each machine is done, it's composited to produce the final render. Think of it as a team of specialists, each of which has a specific task to do. It makes solving problems much faster.

kk thanks, do anyone know when that will be in a update?

To justify using renderfarms you need to have strong animation tools... very few artists resort to renderfarms to render stills.

So let's not put the cart waaaaay before the horse.

Renderfarms usually use Windows or Linux as OS. I personally don't know a Mac render farm. So the Windows port might be the biggest problem.

I thought about doing a render farm by myself, but I'm worried that there is enough interest.

Renderfarm are not only useful for animation jobs. Especially unbiased renderes use render farms a lot today.

Bye,
Martin

well, if you have a slow computer, then you might wanna pay like 2 $ to render a high res picture instead of having to wait like 3 days or bying a new mac for 4000$? atleast i do

I for one would be really interested in using Cheetah 3d with a render farm. I'd love to be able to use the CPU's of my older computers to speed up any rendering jobs - even stills.

I'd love to just be able to hand rendering off to a second Mac.

And if you're going to port -- port to Linux. I think it's more popular with renderfarms since the last thing you want to do with huge piles of cheap computers is buy a Windows license for each one.

I totally agree with that! a Linux "RenderCow" would be g-r-e-a-t but i'm afraid we're asking too much, at least at the moment...

If I should ever consider a port to another platform I would port it to a platform bigger than the Mac platform. No to an even smaller platform. I already know what it means if you only support a niche market.

Very true, but Linux is not a small market for render farms (or cell phones). I assume you'd be porting a completely faceless rendering node. C3D itself would not be sensible to port to Linux (at least not before Windows).
