Default Falcon vs Cheetah - 14.09.2017, 09:14

I just started using v7 today, so far I'm loving the Falcon renderer. I thought I would see faster times in general or something like that, plus a few bells and whistles.. I was wrong. It's not always faster, it's just a different animal. I'm new to path tracing so be patient with me if you don't mind.

What general considerations I should have in mind when using Falcon, if all I know are raytracing engines like Cheetah?

It was surprisingly faster than Cheetah when using DOF, but Cheetah renders faster no contest when not using anything else. Here's a test I made.

For Falcon, samples were set at 0, adaptive sampling. I don't know what Clamp sample is, so I left it at the default 10.

DOF Camera samples for Cheetah were left at the default 64x. Right hand of Bob looks grainy, so I guess more samples are needed, but render times are already crazy long.

Lighting obviously behaves differently in the two renderers. So I guess I should decide what renderer I will use when giving the final touches to my lighting.

Rendered images are 1280x720
