animating part of a polygon object ?

animating part of a polygon object ?

hi,
Beginners question to 3d and animation:
Is it possible to animate part of a polygon object?
For example, taking a Polygon Ball, subdividing it, selecting
part of the mesh, extruding that part with the transform tool...
Can that be recorded/ animated?

Also, can a polygon object convert to spline object?

Hi Schlumpf,
and welcome to the forum.

Sorry that isn't possible yet but it will be in the future. I already have that working in my developmental builds.

That not possible. But I'm curious for what you would need such a spline object.

You can animate using the key frame editor. Ummh, when would you need to convert a polygon to a spline?

Martin,
tks for ur swift reply.
I was thinking about the polygon -to spline conversion for animation purposes. Say I take the above mentioned polygon ball, loop select a
line of the mesh, convert (in theory) the line to spline, select and animate
points on the spline...resulting in very organic -a. easy to manipulate object behaviour/ animation (so I imagine)..

So if I understand correctly from ur reply Martin, to make a polygon ball walking animation, the legs must be separate objects, weherby each
is animated "globaly". The legs can not be part of the polygon ball mesh
and animated independently.

Hi,
it sounds like you want to make something like a Pacman with feet. Is that right?

At the moment you can just animate on the object level. But that will change in the not so distant future. Skeletal animation tool are already under development.

Martin
