A script to send ripples thru you

a simple wave surface object
http://www.geocities.com/todd_w_r/mov/Ripple.js.zip

boy caustics sure do take a LONG time when added to an animation
its better if the object squares are actual square in shape
other than that have fun and don't forget to add the subdivision modifier to the wave object

happy surfing
Todd

Hi Uncle809us.
That´s strange. It´s working fine from here.

And ToddWR.
That´s incredible. A very cool script. Thought I might need Carrara5pro for this. And cool movies too. Thank you for sharing.
With kindest regards
Frank

Hi Todd,
Great script, but could you tell a little bit more how to use it. I can't seem to add a drop and create a key on the timeline. There's the time setting but what does it do, and how can I add one drop at the time? Thanks again!!!

Regards,

Peter

peer,

sorry about that.
two key frames need to be set up, the only thing needing to be changed is the time parameter. clicking the add drop button alters the wave, click it and the run the time up and down a few times to see the change in the object. the only inital state is the calm water button, so as long as the time parameter changes the waves will update

hope that helps
Todd

Hi,
wow that looks really nice.:D It's great to see some more scripts. :D

Martin

I modified Ripple.js script. please try to use.

* added UV and Size parameter.
* added steps for control drop(s).

... pelase check the script file.

Textured Mov. (h.264 716KB)

tg_jp,

thanks, Ive looked it over and it looks good. it is now updated on my site so the original file is replaced. This is what I like about sharing.

hey Martin,
ever thought about including some of the user supplied scripts in a third party folder?

Todd

Hi,
I'm not such a big friend of that idea since I already get many direct Cheetah3D support questions via email.

If I bundle all these scripts I'm sure that I will also get support questions about them. And I just want to avoid that extra work. Especially since giving support for something I haven't written can become quite complicated and time consuming.

Sorry.

Bye,
Martin

so what would be an unsupported folder, with a big read me file saying that all questions need to be directed at the scripts author instead of Martin.

either way I do understand

thanks for concidering it anyway

But who reads the readmes?

That's exactly the point. Cheetah3D has a readme file but I think that less then 5% actually read it.

My experience has shown that readme just files doesn't work. For example there are bug reporting guidelines in the Cheetah3D readme file but maybe only 5% of the "crashing" bug reports come with the crash log. So I always have to request it manually by email.

Bye,
Martin

We have this forum to collect all scripts or not? Maybe a "post once" thread with the scripts could do? So you can post the final script there without replies to it. Maybe the script could be acompanied with a tutorial or movie, but that's all.

Regards,

Peter
