some last minute great entries... thanks folks!
Andreu: mmm, instanced Xmas ball uh... this means I'll have to add it manually since instanced instances don't render ATM. I'll do it just for you... (...kiddin'...)
I planned to upload the whole scene once it's finished... but since you asked here you are a little preview
basically I used ToddWR's Pathed Helix script and Particle Spline (with a little help from Hiroto's fur alpha map):
1.create an Helix spline and give it the basic (conic) shape of the tree;
2.call Pathed Helix scipt, drag the Helix onto it and play with its settings;
3.create a little plane and assign an alpha-mapped material (in this example I used a 4-quads mesh to give it a slight curvature);
4.add a particle tag to produce some randomness in rotation and scale;
5.create a Particle Spline and use the "plane" as base mesh and the pathed helix as reference "path";
done.
please see attached files (I embedded Hiroto's fur alpha map in the material, I hope he doesn't mind...)
cheers,
Alessandro

How did you make this "ribbon" (what is the correct name?) around the tree?
