ah yes, 4 real cores and 4 virtual ones (HT). out of curiosity do you see 4 or 8 little squares while you're rendering?

hi alessandro,
i'm no expert and don't really know how hyperthreading really works but in cheetah i see eight buckets, so render threads match virtual cores.
when i start a second render (cheetah or vue) at the same time it's again eight buckets, so together 16, each core doing two threads.
all my metering software (menumeters, istatpro) shows me *800% cpu* which is nonsense with four cpu's.
but in the end nothing can exceed 4x2.8=11.2ghz however confusing the threading and indicating becomes.
the i7 is very close to the macpro nehalem xeon 8x2.26ghz in performance.
but i will need more than the 4gb ram for certain tasks (hiroto's mandelbulb).
and i think with your gtx 9600 in octane you may do better renders, if faster i dunno,
