This time, I do not use other 3D-applications. I also do not use the displacement map.
I used the Scalpel, Extrude, Weld, Magnet, Point Slide tools.
Cheetah3D is so powerful and easy to use. As a modeler. :icon_thumbup:

Now everyone is in the voting.
Publishing of the data if it is wrong, please delete.
If all of you I am happy to help.

English is difficult for me... Forgive my poor English, please.

Oh, the voting is very close this time. Its a true head to head race between the first two. Very exciting.

Really excellent work all. :icon_thumbup: Good luck everyone!

And… ian… how the flip did you do those feathers is it a displacement map?…

Nothing as clever I'm afraid! They're distorted flat planes, with various alpha & feather textures applied, and then scaled and placed on the base head.

Cheers for the reply, and cheers for showing us the technique, it's very effective. I think my next challenge is going to be creating realistic looking hair, which i have a feeling is gonna use the same kinda method. I found the image below on another 3D forum (so not my work unfortunately) which shows them doing it the same way as your feathers.

although i'm also hoping that martin is gonna surprise us with a stylable hair/fur feature in v5 :)
