joining hi-resolution meshes to lo-res ones

joining hi-resolution meshes to lo-res ones

hi everyone,
i don't know about you, but when i create meshes for 3d characters, i always found it a bit of a nightmare when i had created a head and wanted to attach it to a body that i created earlier somewhere else, or created a hand and wanted to attach it to the arm, or more recently created an ear and wanted to attach it to the head.

I always ran into the problem that the resolutions of the two objects were hardly ever the same, and it was very frustrating trying to join them whist still retaining keeping the mesh entirely as quads and not having to resort to using n-gons or triangles, which don't subdivide as smoothly.

I came across this technique, briefly mentioned in a tutorial that i followed, but it wasn't explained particularly well so i thought i would create a tutorial for everyone and post it. I hope it helps.

if you have any questions please ask.
