.obj export with texturemap embedded

.obj export with texturemap embedded

Martin and the Cheetah squad-

Hi! Thanks for writing such a cool piece of software. I have a question:

How do you export a .obj file with an embedded texture map so the .obj can be imported into another program (in my case, MOHO by Lostmarble).

When I create an .obj in cheetah3d with a texture, it does not seem to export with the texture map included. When I import it into another program, the texture map dissapears.

Any hints?

Thanks!

Adam

Hi,
the .obj file format splits up geometry and material informations. The geometry is defined in the .obj file the materials in .mtl file. The problem is that Cheetah3D version 2.1 doesn't export the .mtl file or the material information yet. But the good news is that the upcoming version 2.2 will.
So please wait for version 2.2 to export the material properties of your model too.

But Cheetah3D exports material informations to .3ds files. I don't know if Moho can load .3ds files but maybe it will help you out until I release version 2.2.

Martin,

Thank you so much for the VERY QUICK reply!
Regarding Moho importing... it can only import .obj files.
But that is very good news about 2.2 exporting .mtl and material info.

When is 2.2 expected to be released?

Thanks again!

Adam

Hi,
in the not too distant future. I plan to release at least a beta version of 2.2 in April.
But there is no guarantee.
