This is a detail from a large 60” x 60” piece I did in 2016. Modeled in C3D but rendered in Electric Image to get enough resolution. It was printed on a matrix of 1/4” steel plates. Matrix not shown in this image.

Hello all,

Not much going on around these parts just now other than bots and such… And while it may not answer the timeless question of how does one get Cheetah3D running properly on an Apple 1, this may be interesting to someone…

After starting this thread with a posting of the detail showing the Apple 1 in the big piece from 2016, I dug out the model I hadn’t touched in 10 years ago and took a look.

All the materials in the rendering in the model in the 2016 image were procedurals created in EI. So I had some fun examining the file, refining UVs of the parts, and creating new C3D materials. It certainly was more fun than worrying about what pathetic bully is threatening whom in the world or speculating on what is next with C3D. Mostly it was it was interesting to see how my approach to modeling has, or has not, evolved.

The original model was not intended to be used as a focal point of an image, so many details were ignored. Even so, it was pretty detailed except for the UVs. The monitor still is missing all of the electronics which are conveniently not in view from this angle. Not sure I’ll ever take the time to model those.

The mosaic glass and wrought iron table is a model of a table my father refurbished in the early 1960s. SSS would help the look of the glass tiles. I believe one of my sisters and/or I broke the glass in the table, which led to my father having us help him refurbish it. 1960s analog randomization: each piece to be placed next by our father onto the plywood was selected by one of us picking a single tile out of a brown paper bag without peeking.

A real copy of the Gravitation game was a fixture on that real table in my childhood.

Disneyland’s 70th birthday this year is acknowledged with the MM ears coaster. My 70th anniversary of going to Disneyland will be next year.

The ancient Apple One is a youngster compared with all of the other objects in the scene, except for the setting.

All objects created in C3D. The HDRI background for the Apple 1 scene was exported out of a C3D project of a model of our living room. The HDRI for the living room scene that was used as the HDRI image for the Apple 1 scene was painted in Photoshop. No photos used.

Cheers,
gsb
