Here's a simple but dramatic lighting setup: Fade to black lighting.
For this effect I used the Falcon renderer.
No HDRI light is used, only an area light.
The text is a PNG on a Plane, with a transparent background, and partially transparent text.
The floor Plane is 100 x 100, big enough to extend beyond the light, and is a dark gray color.
