Modeling with SubD applied without the cage

Unless I'm missing something I would love to be able to model with the subD modifier without the subD "cage" its become a standard in other 3D softwares - (being able to turn it off or on) it really helps when modeling more organic models - its becomes easier to grab faces - points etc without the extra "clutter" the cage creates. It'd be great to retain the smoothing iterations and modeling minus the "cage."

I don't know if its something that could be programmed but it would be a great addition to the modeling options.

Just throwing it out there.

Thx

I know this is a somewhat older post. This would be a nice feature to be able to turn on an off.

One work around is to go into the preferences and the select the Colors tab. Scroll down to "Polygon Edge" and select the color set for it. When the pop-up window opens, you can drag the opacity down to 0. This will of course hide all polygon edges in the viewport, even if they don't have sub-d on them. So to get it back, you would need to reverse the opacity back to 100%.
