Hand Held Searchlight

Yep!
Did you ramp up the ray depth to the max?
I forgot.

I would have a suggestion for the switch. Maybe you use one like on a drill like a trigger; one click for short/interval and two for continuous light.
Don´t have a better pic at hand:

I had considered that, but I wanted water resistance and flotation
for this thing, and that would be next to impossible with a trigger.

I enjoy watching your projects develop. Great work.

The reason I was liking the trigger switch because it was a good way to use your light design as a morse code sending device. Could be handy in searching situations. Taking a look around for waterproof search lights returns a lot of lights with a top handle with the light below rather than a bottom handle with the light above. But there were a few with the handle below that used trigger switches, like this one

@gsb You make a very good point, signaling should be an important feature, and the trigger might be best for that but...

Looking at the way the Aqua Light functions, it's like this:
Five different operating modes can be set with the trigger switch:
  • Very bright - Push the switch once
  • Bright - Push the switch twice
  • S.O.S. flashing light - Push the switch 3X
  • Off - Push the switch 4X
  • Rear facing Red flashing light - Hold down the switch until this function is active
The hand strap is equipped with a whistle, in order to be able to signal acoustically.

So there's no way to send Morse code other than SOS.
All that could be incorporated into the button switch I have now.

But I like the idea of adding a trigger for more Morse code options
with a safety lockout switch and a top handle like the Aqua Light has.

@frank beckmann You where right after all. (y)

I had thought about a long run backpack battery but this one will
be on a belt clip and take standard rechargeable battery packs.

Now I'm working on the flip up top handle.

BRAINSTORM: USB port to work with phone app for sending Morse code.

Perhaps Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity rather than USB. Not as fun/challenging to incorporate in your model, but it is a better technology choice given the potential wet working environment.
