FBX export adds ".1" to root bone name

Hi - Trying to export a skeleton in fbx and it keeps adding a suffix (so "skel03" to "skel03.1") to the root bone. My importer on the other end gives me the error: skeleton name not equal to the root bone name.

How do I stop it doing that. Thanks.

I thought C3d only adds that sort of append when it sees an object with the same name? I guess it could be something to do with the way it exports it though.
