White square notations ?

I have a selection of model table settings for the interior and exterior of a restaurant and for some reason they all have a small white square floating off in various places at a distance from the objects themselves. ( No, this project does not include flies or anything pertaining to my previous quite resent post :)

Excuse my mounting ignorance, it should be going the other way I know, but can anyone explain what their purpose is and how to dispose of them. I'm sure there must be some very basic reason for them existing but they are both unsightly and unsettling and I will be very happy to see them gone for good.

The white squares a folders/group representation which you can hide from the 3d viewport here:

PS: some of your tablecloths seems to have inverted normals.

OH....such a simple and elegant solution. I knew they were connected in some way but I wasn't sure why they were showing in my view window.
