Gyro Stabilizer

Here's a basic gyro stabilizer that can be used on boats to arrest over 90% of the side to side rolling motion.

The unit has a motor driven flywheel in a vacuum.

The arrows indicate the rolling action of the waves.

The way the flywheel is constrained allows the angular momentum to combine
with the flywheels precession oscillation to generate a large amount of torque
over time to directly oppose the dynamic rolling action of the waves.

Thanks, gyroscopes have always been fascinating to me.

The military used this technology on large ships, but due to
high cost, went to hydrodynamic stabilizer fins.
Now commercial vessels are using it again.

That is pretty cool. The ingenuity of humans is pretty amazing. My wife would have this as a requirement because she gets extreme motion sickness. I'm usually not bothered at all.
