Move joints without moving children

It would be nice when adapting a rig to a new or modified mesh to be able to move/rotate a given joint while leaving its children where they are in world-space.

E.g. if I've remodeled a figure's shoulder, I should be able to move the shoulder joint without disturbing the elbow and wrist joints.
 
+1, maya has it where you hold down the D key and move a middle joint without disturbing the others. Perfect for initial setup/alignment, and also essential for fixing elbows and knees during animation
