History Channel Logo

This is an exercise in using the Bevel Tool.

Making this logo with hard edges is easy, but trying to bevel edges
when you have a three way or five way intersections gets very tricky.

The camera background is from a free
HDR exr file I tonemapped in PS
to bring out the clouds.

Hi Zoo, I hope you will expand on the trickery, I run into this problem now and again and always can use new ideas on how to deal with the issue.
Thanks for any insights.

I see what you mean, the tri's. So what's the secret?

I find if everything is symmetrical, it works well with the bevel type set to Subdiv.

And level 1 through 4 gives the same results.

If you get a messy corner, you can edit in Point Mode, one point
at a time or use the selection tools falloff radius to edit groups.

I see thanks. I have no idea what falloff radius is? I do use a very old version of Cheetah though.

It's great for organic forms.

It's part of the Select Tool panel now.

Select one point and it changes color as expected.
Then you turn up the falloff radius and watch
as more points become partially selected.

Now I have a bunch of points selected, but points further away from
the originally selected point are less influenced by the Transform Tool.

@Terry I find it very useful for pulling around verts. The new version of C3D is not much different than the older versions you are used to in work flow but has a lot more advantages. I'm pretty sure you'd like it. Bob

We all jumped on that one.:icon_thumbup:

That is a neat trick folks. I use 5.5, I do tend to stick to old versions and only update when I have no choice. I like what I know, not fond of change.

Bob, I would never start off a nose with such a high poly count, a nose is pretty much a square.

But thanks for the tips, I'm sure one day I'll update.

It was only an illustration not actual modeling.
