How best to model a loxodrome (or blender ball)?

Any advice on creating a single or dual spiral loxodrome in Cheetah? (The one in the image is merely an imported STL)

If this is what you're looking for it can be done with two disconnected
halves of a sphere rotated and re-welded with Optimize.

I have an old / incomplete script for a loxodrome which I compiled in 2010. Feel free to use (and optionally complete and improve) the script.

Thank you, everybody. I am sorry that the script is but a minimal skeleton, but that was all I needed at the time (I think is was a fly by of some obscure planets of your solar system. Due to the absence of intelligent life I decided to return home.
Of course, Frank Beckmann and the rest of you were not alive 6 billion years ago. Maybe, things have changed in the meantime :roll eyes:

Nice script. It would be interesting to make a general-purpose parametric object script (i.e. provide an expression in terms of x and y or two of r, theta, and phi, along with precision and bounds and voila, a spline). This would let people create well-defined mathematical forms without writing a script from scratch.

I'll start my stopwatch and see how long before tg_jp does it ;-)
