IK Handle Animation

Hi guys,

I'm trying to animate my model using IK handles. I've read that I have to adjust the pose of the Ik handle and then hold shift while selecting the root and record the key frame. When I do this, the animation just comes out really stiff and doesn't look right.

What could be the issue?

Thanks

Not sure how to upload the actual file but heres a screenshot of what I'm dealing with. I'm not using any IK targets because i'm still a noob at animating haha.

Thanks!

Nice creature.

If you select the file in the Finder and pull down the file menu, then select Compress/File,
You can then upload it if it's not to big. If it is to big, you can try to send just the Bones without the skin.

Gotcha! I had to just zip the bones, the skin was way too big haha.

Here it is!
Appreciate all your help! Hope we can solve this.

Thanks.

Your rig is fine, so no problem with your setup.
I suggest using an IK Target like this:
  1. Select an IK handle- start with the feet.
  2. Click on the Add Target button- the target is a just a folder. (other things can be used)
Now all you need to Keyframe is the position of the IK folders
for leg movement, no keyframing the bone hierarchy.

So set to Keyframe for just position, nothing else and click the Record button.
Then move and Keyframe again etc. Then I might Keyframe the pelvis.

You will no doubt have to adjust the F curves.

Try this and see where it goes.

ZooHead, thank you for this! It works like a charm.

Really appreciate your help. Can finally get animating this guy now haha.

You're welcome, always here to help.

Of course you can also put Targets on the arm IK handles as well.
