Architectural Interiors...

Hi everyone,
newbie here.
I was wondering if there is a tutorial aimed at creating architectural interiors in Cheetah3d.

I'm in need of a very simple 3d model of a museum gallery.
Tried to find it online but can't find anything that simple.

Thanks in advance,
E.C.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

are you looking for tutorials on modeling or rendering interiors?

extruding the pdf

Hello,

I'm a first timer. I've read your post and created a floorplan in Illustrator which I then save out as a pdf in Illustrator CS5. I attempt to extrude it to pull up the walls and pillars but to no avail.

Also, when it imports it is at a 90 degree angle from the grid. Any way to make it come in flat and what steps do I need to take to extrude it towards the sky after rotating it flat to the grid?

Help is appreciated greatly and a big thanks ahead of time to anyone willing to take the time to help a newbie like me.

Respectfully,

Tyson

Hi Tyson and welcome.
Here are the first basic steps to get your drawing into position.
To get the right dimension select your drawing first grab the ruler tool and click on 2 corner points then go in "point mode" select all with cmd+A and scale it till i meet your needs. I´d take 1 Unit as 1 meter - but that is up to you - as we are not dealing with real world units, because this is not CAD software.
Please have a look at this link for further information: http://www.cheetah3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5810
I guess that´ll get you started.

Cheers
Frank

extrusion?

Frank,

Please accept my humble thanks. I am scouring over your graphic (nice btw!). I can't seem to make the leap from the rotation to the extrusion. I have looked in the help and the tutorials. I'm sorry to have such a (simple to you) barrier. I know if I can get past this hurdle I'll be flying along nicely. I can't figure out how to get the extrusion ability on the shape. Tools/Polygon/ (and all the list of options) is gray'ed out. Please advise kind sir.

Respectfully,

Tyson

Unclear "5. Going from 2D to 3D" in the Cheetah3D help

"5. Going from 2D to 3D
Finally it is time to create our 3D logo. We therefore use the Extrude object. You can create a Extrude object either with the menu command "Objects->Creator->Extrude" or with the toolbar.

Since our logo contains 3 paths we need 3 Extrude objects. So please create them and drag and drop into each Extrude object one path."

Q. 1) The paw in the Cheetah3D help has 5 paths. (4 toes and a palm), so how is that 3 paths?

Q. 2) I attempted to use the menu command "Objects->Creator->Extrude" and was able to see the properties of x, y and z direction but not able to actually get the shape to perform an extrusion.

Q. 3) I guess I am not understanding why the need to create extrusion paths when the outline is imported already. Is there a way to just grab the flat face and extrude the shape up on the Y axis?

A bit more specific step by step is very openly requested and appreciated.

Respectfully,

Tyson

1. These are "compound" paths and can have as many sub-paths as one like.
2. I thought you have except for the Y-direction - so: Grab the extrude-creator and drag your pdf-splines onto the creator object in the browser and adjust the distance along Y-axis.
3. There´re no faces - just splines.

Size of "building" reply

I'm honestly not sure. I'm not attempting to use this as CAD software or have complete accuracy. I am merely attempting to model some interior redesign of a nightclub space. I would have uploaded the .ai file where I'm drawing the floor plan in layers and subsequently had planned to isolate layers and save them as the correct filetype (I used pdf) to import and extrude at various heights. (But .ai isn't a accepted filetype) These walls are the first layer. After that comes the stages (about a foot high), the bar, the seats and then to fine tune the walls and textures on upholstery and such. That's why I'm getting so frustrated since I can't get past this first hurdle of extrusion.

If I could just get some clear step by step instructions from the point i'm at. (I've imported the pdf and rotated it so that the floor plan is flat as in my image above.)

I just can't seem to get past that to the next screenshot you so kindly provided where the walls are extruded.

I don't plan to change the scale since I'll be importing other layers from my drawing in and they all need to match up.

And Frank, thanks so much for the time and help you are providing. I appreciate the fact that you are willing. Sorry to be a hassle.

I get your point about additional ai-files and will skip it. I was asking as we can be precise along the modelling task even without real-world units. I will fire up a small video in the next 30min so hopefully you have something to wrap your brain around.
So you have to extrude the height by eye - so to speak.
So ya´later.

Cheers
Frank

Thanks so much!

I was stuck not understanding the part about dragging the pdf title in the object browser onto the extrude shape layer. I did just the opposite. Once I saw your video it was a piece of cake! 3 cheers to Frank! Hip hip hooray!

Bless you and your day Frank! Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tyson

Once again...

Once again trying to retrace some steps here, could you fix the screencast link - it asks me for a password?
