Normal Map Generating in Cheetah3d

Normal Map Generating in Cheetah3d

Hi.
Some of you might find this useful or just fun to try.
Simple hack:
Model some structure - apply "Directional shader" and render with orthogonal camera and Ambient Occlusion set up - but no light source. Save "texture" rendering.
Take a polygon of same dimensions like the structure. Apply material to it with the texture you made applied to the bump map channel and "normal" bump type.
Light up your scene and render.

Have fun experimenting with other materials/channels in addition.:D

great stuff - thanks frank !

update:
an ambient light with no ambient occlusion creates very precise maps.
i wonder if this is scriptable ?
and if there is a way to achieve something with an unwrapped uv map ?

Hi All and Frank,

Can you tell me more about the "Directional shader", could you share with us this material.

Chris.
