Can this be done without bones
or can someone point me to a tutorial? If I need
bones.

Hi uncle,

this is nothing what joints/bones are made for. Just use the "normal" keyframing stuff and copy&paste or loop them. As you said, everything are mechanical and not organical movements - so it is easier and faster to do this with keyframes.

But just group both objects in front and keyframe the goup.

cheers
wal

What you can't do is use IK and constraints with this setup.

If you want to use bones then simply place the bone roots where you want the pivot points, set constraints to taste, then parent the objects to the bones (rather than using a mesh deformer). Then you get mechanical animation AND IK constraints.

Thank you Frank ...

Hi Uncle,
Here's the movement I want but was trying for fewer parameters to keyframe.

Some more to play with ...

- Here
- See the attached examples using constraints. You just have to keyframe the "Rotate Me" object in the second one.
