Default Cheap Alternative to Final Cut Express... - 27.05.2007, 14:43

All I want to do for video editing, is merge together clips, add a logo overlay, and out put at a non-DV resolution. Not much to ask.

Tried doing that with iMovie? Hah! Painful. Looked like FCE ($350) was the only alternative.

Anyway, I've come across this new app called Norrkross Movie. Brand new (Version 1.0.2), UB, Core Image to the core, very nicely designed, extremely intuitive. I just seems to work the way that I've always thought that Video Edirors should work. And it's only $79. A few rough edges, but nothing to cry about.

And interestingly, it's the work of a solitary developer (this time Swedish) by the name of Martin Wen......nerberg.

Check it out here: http://www.norrkross.com/software/movie/

Cheers,

Tim

Hi,
that apps looks very promising. I'm looking for such a app since quite some time. And it is just 59$ as introductory price.

That the developers name sounds quite simliar to mine makes it even better.

Bye,
Martin

Perfect timing! I have a small video project to get done this week and at present I don't have the software to do it - this could be very useful - thanks Tim.

It does look very interesting. iMovie is great for DV but as I've also found recently, not good for other resolutions. Thanks for posting.

And if anyone does check it out, could you post some quick impressions here?

Cheers,

Tim

Hi, this is the other Martin W speaking, -the developer of Norrkross Movie.

Thanks for mentioning my app. Please note that the free demo is only limited by watermarking the exports so anybody interested should be able to get a good idea of the app.

I don't do any 3D work currently so I haven't purchased a Cheetah license yet, but it's obviously an awesome app!

Norrkross Movie is far from being as mature as Cheetah3D and I have lot's of things to do for the next few versions. But I think that some kind of integration would add great value to both apps and will investigate how this might be done.

Martin --

Welcome to the Forum!

As far as integration goes -- you took the words right out of my mouth! I think the Combination of C3D & NM could be a giant-killer.

Cheers,

Tim

I've already did some small tests. For example I rendered a rotating 3D logo with transparent background. And then I easily composited it into the corner of another movie using Norrkross Movie. Very nice.

Just one small question. Is is already possible to loop a clip endlessly?

Oh, thanks. I will follow the development of Norrkross Movie closely.

Sure. I think many people doing animations might have some interest to composite it into real world movies. Or to combine various small animations clips to a longer movie.

Bye,
Martin
