Modifier Question

I am practicing with animation and lighting. I would like to basically animate a cylinder traveling through the bulge modifier. Problem; when I move the sphere the modifier moves with it. I need the modifier to stay still.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Robert

Hi.
Lack of time forced me to use the morph tag, nevertheless it can be done within minutes.
For a smooth morphing one should divide the passing object into small sections.
Make your object editable, add the "morph tag", place it at a starting point by selecting all polygons and move it.
Hit the "+" in the morph properties,
After doing this you can record your animation by dragging the slider in the morph tag and recording it.
I add a simple file.

Edit: Just one morph record is needed. That is cool, clean and fast.
Updated the file.

I'm doing something wrong.

I'm somehow using the morph tool incorrectly. It seems like I'm setting it up correctly, but when I move the sliders to change the position of my object it keeps coming out of it's wireframe shell. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm just using the demo version so I can't save it to show you.

How did you get the morph to work with only one target, don't you need 2 target positions?

I feel as though I'm missing a step somewhere.

Thank you,

Robert

Hi Robert.
After making the cylinder editable, add morph tag. Select all polygons and place it our of the reach of the modifier. Choose the morph tag and hit"+" followed by the "restore" command (seems I forgot to tell. Sorry). Now lead the polygons through the modifier until it reached the other shore. If you now move the slider of the morph tag you will be able to see&record the morphing.

Frank,

As always I thank you for your time and patience. Is there any way that you can to a detailed step-by-step for me? This isn't as intuitive to me as it is to you.
I can get the slider moving the object through the modifier and it looks like I want it, but it doesn't work to animate it. I set my key frame in reference to the slider but when I tell it to play nothing happens. Also, can it morph colors?

Thank you,

Robert

Now with video :D

Hi Robert.
One thing thou; click the "P" near the timeline to make sure your "slider morphing" will be recorded.
And yes, one can change material settings during an animation. Pick the part of the material you want to change and rightclick on the record button will tell you, what you can record. Nearly every parameter can be animated in Cheetah3d.

Hello Frank,

I thank you again. But I think that you really like being the hero of the forum. I have to go to work now and use my other (Dell) computer, but I'll give it a go as soon as I get home.

I will be presenting a more challenging question to you specifically within the next couple of days.

Thank you my friend.

Frank,

Hopefully you watched my black ooze movie. I was able to achieve my desired effect. So now I wanted to take it a step further. I wanted to make it look like my blob was jumping from place to place, so I placed bulge modifiers at strategic locations. I wanted the blob to "jump" forward through the first bulge then at a 45 deg. angle throught the next bulge. The problem is that settings up the 2nd bulge tool throws off the beginning location of the blob. Hopefully this makes sense, if you get a chance try setting it up and see what happens.

Thank you,

Robert

Hi Robert.
Ok, you want to go further, fine.

This is just a quick hack&guess. Arrange angle/scale/power of the new bulge modifier separately. When you´re finished attache it to your object and go morphin´.
