Reference Coordinate

Is there a method of setting the 0,0,0 coordinate for a group? I ask because I'd like to rotate an "arm" around the shoulder point. Perhaps this has something to do with how the group was created - but I'm at a loss to discover the secret! This is, of course, a stupid time to be asking because after well over 100 hours of rendering my animation (all 100 seconds of it...) I should really have done this at the start! But will know better next time...
