A Trubute to Massimo Vignelli

A Trubute to Massimo Vignelli

This thread is meant to be a tribute to the late Massimo Vignelli,
who's designs have been seen by millions of people,
people that don't even know who he is.

Together with his wife Leela, he has achieved a huge legacy
of design that will continue to endure for many years.
Some of his clients include Ford, Bloomingdale's,
American Airlines, Knoll and the NYC subway map.

Massimo's designs favor clarity, and as I was taught, you only
need a handful of type styles, he heavily favored Helvetica.

This is my take of his famous mug, originally successful until it was released in the US, where people fill there cups to the brim.
They are still available now, with the trough into the handle blocked off, The original design is a collectable now.

My design change simply entails cupping the saucer
so at least the spill wont end up on your clothing.

Feel free to post your Massimo tribute here.

Sorry for this...
But if it is not hidden in the saucer you missed the most important part !
The joint at the base that is the core of the concept of this design

Do not hate me, I still think your render and models are great

It's hidden, I've never held one in my hand but
I love the interlocking stacking idea.

You've shown the demitasse size, which
I believe was the first released. :icon_thumbup:

PS: I invite constructive criticism, I could
never hate you for that Weedo. :D

Here's the bottom redone.

Thanks Weedo. :icon_thumbup:

There's also a matching pitcher that's really cool.

WOW!!! - these are all great - I'm loving seeing everybody's interpretation of his work. I'll have to make some time this week to contribute something. Awesome stuff everybody. :icon_thumbup::icon_thumbup::icon_thumbup:

Can you show me how you've done this? I would like to re-create it but don't know where to start.

Thanks!

Nice work, very realistic.

Thanks ZooHead, I am glad you liked it.

For me, it was a good way to start discovering "Nodes", still lots to learn.
Thanks to you and many others in the forum, the discovery has been made easy for me to understand and appreciate C3D more and more.......

All the postings here - very inspiring. I'm a little late to the party. Here is a highrise office scene with some various Massimo inspired items. (all modeled and rendered in Cheetah with just of hint of post in photoshop to get the levels right). Looks more like a miniature set to me - oh well. Cheers.
