Dragon tail animation

Dragon tail animation

Hello,

Are there any tricks to get a dragon's tail to animate in a snake like (or sine wave, maybe?) motion?

I'm doing by hand but it's very tedious.

Thanks!

Hi Joe

Option 1:
* Use script Sine Wave attached (cobbled together years ago and a bit fragmentary). You can animate the parameters for amplitude, λ and f. Stick into a tapered sweep creator.

Option 2:
* Use Todd Roger´s Loft script with a series of profile splines. Possibly combine with a bend modifier to get a whipping tail. Animating the positions of the profile splines may suffice.

Option 3:
* Use Hiroto´s script for the advanced sweep. I don´t recall the original title, it should be on his website. I have added a bounce spline (by Doc Martin, should be an on-board spline .js). Again, modify the available parameters.

PS: In case you don´t know, you can select a group of keyframes in the F-curve editor by drawing a marquise / shift-selecting the markers. Such a group can be copied & pasted, it also can be dragged left/right or up/down.

Option 4:
* Use a helix in a tapered sweep. Add a bend modifier.

:-D you guys have a wild imagination :)

This is the tail of a character I'm working on, but can be applied to any mesh, and if desired in combination with the sine script :)

Pretty Please could someone show in detail how to use the Spline IK Tag?
It seems like a great tag but I can’t seem to get a handle on it.

Thanks
My Best Regards
Jeanny

I am with Jeanny on this - Filip - if you could explain the Spline IK basics - that would be very nice indeed :)

Great video Filip, I'm always impressed by what Cheetah can do in the right hands.

I think an audio track might give it some extra dimension. ;) (hint, hint)

I always enjoy your contributions. :icon_thumbup:
