Very simple scene demonstrating motion blur…

Quick test render.

This scene is entirely lit by emissive materials. (Falcon isn't yet optimized for this, but the results are pretty awesome even now.)

Simple gold ring — old renderer vs. new (look at the caustics!)

Note that the new render took a little over twice as long. The new renderer is faster to give you a rough preview but slower to produce a finished image relative to a simple scene rendered the old way. But once you add (otherwise) costly effects such as motion blur, depth of field, blurry reflections, area lights, and caustics, the new renderer is faster and produces far better results.

Cheetah 3D 6 Render Vs Cheetah 3D 7 Cheetah Rendere

First 2 examples are rendered in Cheetah 3D 7's, Cheetah renderer.

Later 2 examples are rendered in Cheetah 3D 6's renderer.

Both same lighting and camera settings.

The rendered results looks quite different, Cheetah 3D 7's Cheetah renderer looks smooth and more dynamic range, looks nicer in my opinion,
compared to Cheetah 3D 6.

Looks like you are using a point light — non physical lights do not produce good results with falcon. Try area lights.

I can't really see a difference between your renders.

The difference is in the highlights, in the C3D7 Cheetah render, the highlights or white parts retains detail and has more colour saturation.

In C3D6 render, the highlights or white parts are "over exposed", no details just white wash. Colour is also less saturated.

Compare the waterfall curtains and the overall brightness, both lighting and camera settings are the same in both examples.

It seems C3D7 handles light differently, it looks more pleasing, C3D6 seems more contrasty and stark in the examples.

The v6 colors are definitely more saturated. Look at the green on the tree leaves.

I now found that the C3D7 camera settings has "Aperture" controls to set exposure of "camera".

This might explain why the same lighting condition produces 2 separate brightness in both renders.

I suggest you set both renderers Gamma settings to 2.2.

Apples native gamma has been 2.2 for some time.

Martin, would you consider changing the default setting?

First 2 examples: C3D6 Gamma 1.8, C3D6 Gamma 2.2

Later 2 examples: C3D7 Cheetah Gamma1.8, C3D7 Cheetah Gamma2.2

Seems to behave differently for both C3D versions.
