In your opinion to speed up rendering in Cheetah3D what count the more: doubling the RAM (i.e. from 1Gb to 2Gb) or processor speed (average from old to new ± 20%) ?

I'd say that it depends on your average scene !
If you do mainly small scenes, with few objects containing few polygons, then you might not hit the RAM barrier, in which case you should probably just change the processor.
If it's the other case, then first think about upping your RAM.
In any case, upping RAM is cheaper, but have a look at the type of RAM you have to add.
If it's some modern type of RAM, then you could just reuse it in your next Mac !
Now it's clear that i need... a new Mac with "full monty" RAM.
My old PowerMac G5 can't think speedy and, as you know, polygons are growing esponentially.
