Transparent Animation Render

Transparent Animation Render

I can render a still frame with a transparent background by setting the camera background to 0 alpha. WIth I render my animation, each frame is rendered with a transparent background but the saved file does not have the transparency.

I am trying to export an image sequence (which you can do from save | export from the render manager) but want to preserve the transparency.

SO:

Is there a way to render to an image sequence (for the whole animation) with transparency?

Hi,
then movie previews doesn't display the alpha channel (that is a limitation of the Cocoa Movie view class). Even although it is available. You just have to make sure you save to a movie file format which supports the alpha channel. Like the PNG movie codec.

Once you import the movie to a compositing app you will see that the alpha channel was always there.

Martin

Thanks for the quick reply Martin.

As a temporary work around I simply render the whole thing then trim the clip in my video edit program.
