Build a Car-Workshop

You could have been really devious and left only the "extra" points as a clue. ;)

Your "score", according to my rules is as follows:
Base Cube to Cube One - 2 steps
Base Cube to Cube Two - 3 steps
Base Cube to Cube Three - 4 steps

I don't think it's possible to beat that score. It's not surprising
that you got the top score, but you did it in an unexpected way.

I'm always learning new stuff from you. :icon_thumbup:

"Expect the unexpected" as a rule. :p
The points are the ones where the curvature starts and ends - so the higher the linear subdivision the smaller the rounding. But it´s of course not the best in terms of topology.
This one is more subdiv-friendly, but need more steps:

Cheers
Frank

Thanks Zoo and Frank

I still would have been too high in my calculation of number of steps:rolleyes:
but what about Optimize after you delete the 4 center polygons?
Does that count as a step?

Good to see so many ways to accomplish modeling the same item.:)

Since it doesn't effect the way it renders,
in this case it's just a point clean up, it's not a step.
If it welded points together, it would be a step.

Soon I will explain my reason for this foolishness.

:)

:) when this competition is over i'd like franks method - as I plan on making some low poly models for my favourite games :)

I got it, but I don't think I did it efficiently.

Thanks zoo for the great tutorial and tips
I' m experimenting with your method for a new model.
I am sure that everyone will recognize the model even without showing the car but only " some " optional parts

All right!! One of the most iconic movie cars ever, and my
favorite version, with the Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor.

They actually used a Krupps coffee grinder to make that prop.

Looks awesome even in it's unfinished state. :icon_thumbup::cool::icon_thumbup:

When working on a complex shape there are many times you
can't add a ring cut because it messes up something else,
like a wheel well, or an edge with a perfect radius.

Instead of a "local tool", you need a more global solution, that works
on the whole object and maintains the established contours.

Thanks
This is of much interest to me. I kept running into that problem when I was
trying to model the teddy bear.

Any change of an example post on a small complex item to show precisely how to do it? (We need a pretty please smiley)

Radius Preservation

Let's call this Radius, or Contour Preservation.

With a Boolean bonus.

I appreciate all of your expertise, and patience.
I will explore this technique soon!
