Ball or Lathe?

Ball or Lathe?

Hi

I have a problem with the ball on this logo. I want the ball to look solid with groves taken out.

I have got this far by deleting relevant polygons from a ball, not sure now how to fill the gaps... or should I have used an effect (lathe?) on the original svg of the .svg shape?

Thanks for any help
R

That is easy. Use Fill hole on the gaps; will look messy in first place - but when you make 2 scalpel tool cuts - everything will be fine:

PS: added file

Hi Frank

Works on top section but middle section the back does not fill and/or scalp properly and the bottom section the top does not fill and/or scalp properly?

Use optimize tool first to get rid of useless points from the deleting!
If all failed call Create Polygon tool - file the back with one 6-sided nGon each and use fill hole then for top/bottom.

Cheers
Frank

Simple Method

1 select faces in area mode
2 apply a small inner extrude
3 squash the selection into a plane via the scale box of the transform widget
4 move back (snapping @ raster) to the centre axis via the transform widget

Hi Uncle Bob

Yes, these are the artifacts Franks has solved with his sanitised version of my method. I actually felt this was a minor bit of rubbish, but did not zoom in to look closely. Sorry
Greetings from Vienna:tongue:
