Ptex, texturing

Ptex, texturing

Hey,
Been meaning to post this for awhile, I am probably so far behind the curve here, anyway.

I was reading about this, but not read the paper yet, I have a hunch the maths will kill me, or simply melt my brain. Apparently it is a way of texturing that Disney have come up with that means you dont really have to deal with UV maps.

Sounds brilliant to me.

couple of down sides though, i think only Renderman supports it, and apparently it is not very useful in games.

Just wondering if anybody had any thoughts, insights???

Hi,
I currently don't think that that will ever replace UV coords. Yes, it takes some time to create good UV coords but at the end you get a much faster workflow with just one texture and not thousands. And they mesh will be also usable for games and not just for movie productions. Ptex is an interesting idea but nothing generally usable.

Bye,
Martin
