object is locked and can't be transformed

after applying a boolean and then making editable to collapse the object back to a single poly object, it becomes frozen, can't move it or transform it. It moves if I use the position coordinates in the palette but it doesn't work with the transform tool.

The only way I've found to fix this is saving, closing then reopening the file. Any ideas why this is happening?

When you collapse, you're in polygon mode. Switch to object mode and the transform tool will work.
