Cannot see vertex weight colors

Cannot see vertex weight colors

I modeled a hand, added joints and positioned those joints in the center of my hand model. When I use the vertex weight tool I cannot see the tool's colors like I see in the online tutorial. What am I missing??
 
Yes I did Frank. I tried to move a joint but the entire hand rotated instead of just the finger joint.

Mmmh - it´s quite difficult to analyse it from here; vertex weight painting and moving joints are different terms so I´m a bit confused.:redface:
 
You need to click bind mesh to assign weights, then you can start work. Until you do that the weights are pathological.
