3d Scaling

3d Scaling

I just purchased Cheetah3D 3.4 , for my Mac G5.

YES, I am a 3D "Newbie" and I have a question for ALL?

Just briefly:

I have experience with AutoCAD, and ArchiCAD 3D modeling.

Using AutoCAD for many years as an E/M Design Drafter &,

have been using ArchiCAD for Residential Drafting.

Thus I have always drawn in scale from .0000 to 1/4" scale.

My frustration is, I still want to draw in scale when using cheetah3D.

For example: I was trying to make a simple 3D model of a ball.
Well I started to want to measure a real ball.

My question is: (finally, sorry) How do you SCALE objects in Cheetah3D?
Or does one NOT scale and just draw???

Thank You For Your Time.

Regards, CS

First off welcome to Cheetah3D. Second, Cheetah has its own measurement system which is neither metric nor imperial. All the info about an object is in the properties panel. You could also produce work in AutoCAD and importing it into Cheetah.

Hi,
I know that measuring is still quite a problem in Cheetah3D since Cheetah3D wasn't planed as a CAD app. But I still have a measure tool on my 3.x todo list which I promised another user. So measuring will become easier but I will probably be never on par with true CAD apps.

In general Cheetah3D works unit less. So you have to image in which measure (m, inches, ect,) your model actually is.

Bye,
Martin

Cool Martin, a guide tool would be great in combination with it, so that you could create a line from a point, a certain length in units, and the make an adjustment to something, and make it snap to the guide.

Andrew or anyone, what is the method to bring a 3D AutoCAD drawing into Cheetah to render?

Bill

From my experience you would import a model made in AutoCad. I suppose there is an export for line drawings that would import to Cheetah then build your model in Cheetah. My last client built a model in AutoCad and exported it as .3ds. It worked well but not flawless.

Hope that helps.

But I still have a measure tool on my 3.x todo list

:icon_thumbup: :icon_thumbup: That would give me a lot of pleasure ,i still find it hard to control measurements within Cheetah .
Any chance of telling us when the new version is about to arrive with all these nice updates
