option to save a selection as new mesh

option to save a selection as new mesh

I was wandering in the menu section and I haven't found anything that sounds like what I need, so I am not sure if in fact there is an option to do so.

I would like to select part of a single mesh, and separate it from the main mesh, making it a different mesh (picture a robot; I want to have the inner frame as one mesh and the armor on another mesh, but both of them being part of the same mesh, so the armor would be nested under the main inner frame of the robot).

Is there any quick way to do so? I didn't realized that and I just went on and on extruding and modeling....and ended up with one big mesh :)

I think the fastest way is:
Select what you wish to be a separate object.
cmd+C for "Copy".
Get "polygonobject" from "Objects->polygon->" menu
cmd+V for "Paste".
There you have it.
If if has to be inside the same object simply select Copy&Paste - move on.

Works with edges too (will copy all nested polygons) and points only.

Cheers
