Problems with illustrator import

Problems with illustrator import

hello together,

i have a big problem to import paths from illustrator to C3D. but i think the object is to difficult to build in C3D.

Hi,
I'm quite sure that Cheetah3D can tesselate that spline. The problem you probably run into is that Cheetah3D is quite riggid when it comes to the winding of the spline. In Cheetah3D holes have to have the opposite winding of the outer contour.

For example the outer contour has clockwise winding (you can see the winding at the color gradient of the spline) so all the holes of the spline have to have anticlockwise winding.

To change the winding of a spline please use the "Reverse Sequence" tool.

Please check also the "Illustrator to Cheetah3D" tutorial which comes with the documentation.

Martin

P.S. I plan to write a tool which corrects inconsistent windings automatically.

thanks a lot, this was the solution! but would it be possible to construct a object like this by using the C3D standard tools? as fast as its possible to do this in freehand/illustrator?

this would be great!

and how can i set the "middle" of an object, the zero point, you know what i mean?

if i animate this object now to rotate, the "zeropoint" is not in the middle. its south-west

normally if i "draw" a ball the middlepoint is in the middle of the ball. can i change this in my object?

bye, jan

Hi lumopix
this is Freehand, no roundabout way via eps. If you clone a path and mirror it, you have to reversal its direction for export to Cheetah3d. If you want to make the change in Cheetah3d (as Martin said..) select in point modus one point->select group->Reverse Sequence->>voilá.

Frank (call me béziermaster  )

Ok, there was a solution in the meanwhile, but maybe the way is important to those, who will make similar projects.

Hi,
go in point mode and select all control points (you can use Command + A). Then use the transform tool to move the selected points to the middle of the coordiante system.

It is possible to make such a spline in Cheetah3D but probably not as fast as in Illustrator. Illustrator is just the specialist in that area.
