New Teddy Bear

New Teddy Bear

I started my Teddy Bear over again again. In an attempt to keep it low poly I tried to avoid using the Ring Cut
for small areas were I needed more geometry (e.g. the nose). I didn't want the hole head to have an extra row of polygons
so I tried to just scalpel in a few extra edges. When I do that I end up with what I call dead ends.
Is this ok or will I run into problems in the long run?

If anyone has any better suggestions on how I can go about making my bear please let me know.

Jeanny

The real issue you want avoid like the pest are 5-sided polygons (and other nGons). You can´t terminate these polygons with odd amount of edges inside a mesh.
What was wrong with the Teddy-start file I posted earlier?

:) Thanks for replying Frank.
I'm Sorry it took me a bit to reply. Had to leave my computer for a while.

Your start file was great.
I tried my best to go from there and messed it all up again. My brain just won't
put it together.

I'm trying to get the mouth so I can animate it talking.
I Don't know how to make it so the tongue fits better in the mouth without
having a big opening for the mouth.

I don't know how to explain myself and if what I'm trying to accomplish is even possible.

I have to leave again. Hopefully I'll start on the teddy again tonight.

Hi Jeanny, this is a very simple approach. Box>Subdiv.2>Collapse Mesh>Cover/Pull the snout>Ring Cut>Inner Extrude the nose> Cover/Pull. Tweak to shape and Scalpel the mouth. File attached. I added a Morph on the jaw. Hope this helps.

Cheers
Terry

:-D Oh Wow! Thanks Terry! That is so close to what I was trying to create!
You even added the morph tag that will give me a better understanding of how to go about animating that particular type of mouth.

I was wondering how to get the box to be all quads, You would get a good laugh at how I tried going about it.

Now I'll have a better idea how to create dogs and cats after I get the bear done.

I'm a bit done in so I'll have to work on it tomorrow.

You're welcome, Jeanny. You can also use the morph to animate the snout up a little like so.

Cheers

:D Thanks again Terry!
It wouldn't have dawned on me to animate each part of the mouth (upper and lower) separately.
I can see that would give one better control.
animate the snout up a little
That gives me another idea to wiggle his nose a bit.

I'll post as soon as I can get it done. I am going to try to start from scratch using your model and instructions as a guide.

 Hi Terry
May I please ask some questions as I try to duplicate your bear?

:?: Did you split the top and/or bottom of the Snout from the head and then
weld it back together later after you modeled the head to your liking?

I did it like this, Jeanny. Scalpel mouth. Delete polys. Select lines and cover>pull. But Frank's way works as well.

Cheers

Thanks Terry

Could I please ask how you did the lips of the teddy?
Hopefully I won't have any more questions.

Oh - I missed your answer Frank. Thanks Frank I'll try both ways.

 Sorry
It just hit me - when I cover and pull the edges in that will form the lips.

The screen shot was of your model of which I disabled the subdivision modifier so I could take a better look at it.
Thanks again
